Where Can I Serve?
“We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.” Romans 12:6-8 NIV
Jesus told us, His disciples, to make disciples of all nations. One emphasis of CCMcAllen Metro is our mission to the world. It begins in our own community, and spreads overseas to every nation. All involved in our fellowship are encouraged to pray and seek the Lord on His call to service in their lives. We have a variety of ministries from things as simple as cleaning our church building in preparation for service, or preparing the coffee Sunday morning.
Calvary Chapel McAllen Metro designates at least one Sunday evening a month to go into the community and offer the Gospel to people we meet. This is a base for our evangelism ministry. Our usual routine is to go to one of several parks in the area as a group and share, in pairs, the Gospel plan for salvation or hand out gospel tracts. We encourage all of our people to respond to God’s call for laborers, Jesus tells His disciples in Luke 10, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” And we pray he continues to send people who desire to live and minister in our own community.
God-focused worship is something we strive for. We pray to see the Lord raise up people who are skilled and gifted at their instrument, but most importantly, who desire to worship God. It is a great joy to see others using their talents and gifts to glorify God.
The ushers at CCMcAllen Metro fill an important role. They will be among the first to welcome our church family and visitors. They keep things running smoothly and help people feel at home. The usher team is a servant-hearted group of men and women whose lives have displayed humble service to others.
Media & Technology
Using media to spread the gospel is a privilege of CC McAllen Metro. In an age of widespread technology, we have a stewardship to use these tools as best as possible for kingdom purposes. All of our weekly sermons are live-streamed and uploaded to a link from our website in video format. An audio copy of messages is available on CD or downloaded to your USB. We also maintain an active Facebook and Twitter feed for additional church communication.
Prayer cannot be overestimated. Prayer moves the hand of God. CCMcAllen Metro is a body of believers dependent upon prayer, and committed to God’s sovereignty. Each Sunday before the morning service, a prayer meeting is held at 10:00am. We also meet Wednesday evening before service at 6:00pm. All are welcome to join in these prayer meeting.
Throughout the week, prayer needs are sent out by e-mail to our prayer team. Please indicate to the pastor or an elder if you would like to be added to the prayer e-mail list.
We also hold a special Prayer & Fasting day the 2nd Saturday of each month. A time of worship and dedication to lifting prayer needs before the Lord is shared from 9:00am – noon.
In order to give our children Bible teaching that they can enjoy and understand, CCMcAllen Metro holds a children’s church service in conjunction with the main service. This special time gives kids more opportunity for interaction and learning in a context and manner that may be better suited to their age and learning styles. Our friendly children’s church servants have an endless stream of creativity–ranging from puppet shows, to games, to object lessons, crafts and scripture memorization challenges.
Mondays and Fridays at 7:30PM: Serving the Lord starts with a servants heart. The Lord often teaches us truths about serving Him as we commit to do it out of the sight of others. We do regular cleaning of the facility such as vacuuming, washing windows, sweeping and mopping, and straightening chairs as well as decorating and organizing when needed. If the Lord is calling you to serve Him and you aren’t quite sure what to do, this is an excellent place to start. It is truly a service the Lord and His people.
