HOW TO KONOW GOD

1.    Recognize you’re a sinner.

First, you must admit your spiritual need:  “There is none righteous, no, not one” (Romans 3:10).  We can’t make excuses or blame others for our circumstances and our actions.  “For all have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God”  (Romans 3:23).

2.    Recognize that Jesus Christ died for you.

For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God…” (1 Peter 3:18).  Jesus paid the price for your sin.  The Apostle Paul said, “…the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me” (Galatians 2:20).

3.    Repent of your sins.

The word “repent” means to change your direction.  The Bible tells us, “Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord” (Acts 3:19).  God commands us to repent.  You must be willing to turn away from the things that displease God.

4.    Accept Jesus as your Savior

Jesus said, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest”  (Matthew 11:28).  It is essential that you come to Jesus as you are.  Don’t try to “clean up your life” before you come to God.  Instead, receive Him and allow Him to do the “cleansing.”  Jesus said, “All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out”  (John 6:37).

 5.    Pray, with a sincere heart, something like this…

Dear Lord Jesus,
I know that I am a sinner and need Your forgiveness.  I believe that You died on the cross for my sins.  Please forgive me for my sins and cleanse me by Your blood.  I accept You by faith as my personal Lord and Savior.  Give me a thirst for Your Word and Help me to follow You all of my days.  In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

What have you just done?
By accepting Jesus into your life as your personal Lord and Savior, you have established a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.  Before confessing Him by faith, you were an enemy of God because your sins had separated you from Him.  The Bible says, “Your iniquities [sins] have separated you from your God… “(Isaiah 59:2).  Now, by asking Jesus into your heart, you are free from the bondage of sin and are under the Lordship of Jesus Christ.  Before accepting Jesus you were ruled by sin, but now the Spirit will rule you.  Romans 8:5 says, “For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.”

If you have received Jesus Christ as your Savior, as a Christian you should:

  1. Read your Bible every day to get to know Christ better.Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. (2 Timothy 2:15)Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. (Psalms 119:105)
  2. Talk to God in prayer every day.And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive. (Matthew 21:22)Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God(Philippians 4:6)
  3. Be baptized, worship, fellowship, and serve with other Christians in a church where Christ is preached and the Bible is the final authority.Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit(Matthew 28:19)not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhortingone another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching. (Hebrews 10:25)All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and isprofitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16)
  4. Tell others about Christ. And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.(Mark 16:15)For if I preach the gospel, I have nothing to boast of, for necessity is laid upon me; yes, woe is me if I do not preach the gospel! (1 Corinthians 9:16)For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. (Romans 1:16).
