What We Believe
Calvary Chapel has been formed as a fellowship of believers in the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Our supreme desire is to know Christ and be conformed to His image by the power of the Holy Spirit. We are not a denominational church, nor are we opposed to denominations as such, only to their over-emphasis of the doctrinal differences that have led to the division of the Body of Christ.
We believe the only true basis of Christian fellowship is Christ’s (Agape) love, which is greater than any differences we possess, and without which we have no right to claim ourselves Christians.
We believe worship of God should be spiritual. Therefore, we remain flexible and yielded to the leading of the Holy Spirit to direct our worship.
We believe worship of God should be inspirational. Therefore, we give great place to music in our worship.
We believe worship of God should be intelligent. Therefore, our services are designed with great emphasis upon the teaching of the Word of God that He might instruct us how He should be worshipped.
We believe worship of God should be fruitful. Therefore, we look for His love in our lives as the supreme manifestation that we have been truly worshiping Him.
We believe in all the fundamental doctrines of orthodox, evangelical Christianity.
We believe in the inerrancy of Scripture, that the Bible, Old and New Testaments is the inspired, infallible Word of God.
We believe that God is externally existent in three separate persons: the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
We believe that God the Father is the personal, transcendent, and sovereign Creator of all things.
We believe that Jesus Christ is fully God and fully human, that He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, provided for the atonement of our sins by His vicarious death on the Cross, was bodily resurrected by the power of the Holy Spirit, ascended back to the right hand of God the Father, and ever lives to make intercession for us.
We await the pre-tribulation rapture of the church, and we believe that the second coming of Christ with His saints to rule on earth will be personal, pre-millennial, and visible. This motivates us to holy living, heart-felt worship, committed service, diligent study of God’s Word, regular fellowship, and participation in adult baptism by immersion and Holy Communion.
We seek to teach the Word of God in such a way that its message can be applied to an individual’s life, leading that person to greater maturity in Christ.
Our leadership team recognizes the authority of God, and realizes that we are shepherds who serve under the Chief Shepherd, Jesus Christ. We desire to devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the Word. Our passion and goal is to equip the believers for the work of the ministry until we all attain maturity in the fullness of Christ.
Having been raised in a Christian home by parents who love and serve their Savior, Abraham Moreno has always felt a draw towards ministry. From a young age he was often leading worship, but his love for serving grew when he attended Calvary Chapel Bible College. Sitting through an intense couple of years of in-depth bible study and learning the value of studying the whole counsel of God, a desire to teach the Word blossomed.
As the Lord led, Abe, his wife Kathryn and his children were moved, through job transfers, to different parts of the country. These moves proved faith building as they sat under anointed Pastor-Teachers. Abe also had opportunities to be trained of the Lord in teaching as God opened doors for him to teach Junior High/High School Youth Group.
Born and raised a Pastor’s son, Rommel Carreon, known here at Calvary Chapel McAllen Metro as Pastor Bhong is from Dumaguete City in the Philippines. He and his wife Ame have been married since 2009. It wasn’t until after earning a college degree and serving as counsellor at a summer Calvary Chapel youth camp in Dumaguete that Bhong heard the calling to be a pastor. He attended Calvary Chapel Bible College in the Philippines and entering full-time ministry in 2006, went on to plant a church in General Santos City. His wife Ame came to the United States to work as a nurse and Bhong was allowed to be here with her for 6 months and then return to the Philippines for 6 months. This cycle continued for over 2 years until now they are able to stay indefinitely, and the LORD has raised up a leader to take the role of Pastor at the General Santos City Calvary Chapel. Together with his wife Ame, he now serves as Associate Pastor at Calvary Chapel and he leads the Men’s Bible Study as well as the Youth Bible Study.
